Get to know our essay coaches! We sat down to interview H. Ulrich, one of our College Admissions Specialists.
What is one thing you wish more students knew before applying to college?
Getting ahead of the process earlier gives you so many more options than starting at the last minute. Doing the work earlier leaves so many more opportunities and possibilities as admissions season goes on, even if you have a very specific plan.
What changes to your college list/search would you have made looking back on it?
Applied to more schools between my reach and my likely acceptances. Having a wider range of schools to choose from would have only benefited me, and there were interests I didn’t pursue until graduate school because I didn’t cast wide enough a net.
What was your favorite part of college?
Obtaining the educational and emotional footing to confidently express myself intellectually and creatively. My classwork and academic engagement fed and nourished my creative interests, and the liberal arts scope pushed me into interests I didn’t know I had previously.
Who’s keeping you company when you’re working on essays?
Max and Morgana, two lovely and deeply stupid cats. Sometimes they must be moved when I’m trying to type.
What could you talk about endlessly?
Tabletop RPGs, enemies of Rome, and Jorge Luis Borges. No, really, I won’t shut up about them if you get me started.
