List of Colleges that Require SAT Subject Tests

SAT Subject Tests are hour-long standardized tests in specific academic areas (e.g. Spanish, U.S. History, Chemistry, Math Level 2). These tests are optional, recommended, or required by various colleges for admissions.

The number of colleges that require SAT Subject Tests has shrunk over the years, but these tests can still positively impact your admissions chances at schools where they are not technically required. You’ll notice below that we bundled together schools where the tests are “optional” or “recommended.” This is because for these schools our recommendation is the same: as a rule of thumb, submit your score if it is over 700, do not submit if it is lower. (If you have a question about your specific situation, call us at (267) 888-6489 or contact us today.)

For more information on SAT Subject Tests, read our blog on the topic.

Below is an up-to-date list of schools and their various SAT Subject Test policies compiled by college counselor Cigus Vanni in February of 2017.

Tutoring Testimonials

“I would encourage every student to take the SAT/ACT diagnostic that Ivy Experience offers. Our son’s college acceptance list, I believe, has a lot to do with him choosing the right test. Other families ask how we had such success on this journey and I tell them we got a positive start with choosing the right test and Ivy Experience’s style of test prep.”

– Sue D.

Tutoring Testimonials

“Ivy Experience was an enormous asset to my daughter in the college prep process. The process has changed dramatically since I applied to colleges, and their team’s knowledge and guidance was extremely valuable. They were able to keep her on schedule and gave her deadlines to get the necessary steps completed on time. The best part was the removal of arguments between me and my daughter. Their help resulted in a very high acceptance rate to selective colleges. I strongly encourage you to use Ivy Experience, and I suggest you do it very early in the process.”

– Michael S.

Tutoring Testimonials

“Our Ivy Experience tutor was the consummate professional and a wonderful teacher. He was reassuring but firm, kind, very good at articulating information in a way that my son would understand, and seemed able to get right to the heart of the issues my son needed to work on most. Our tutor was polite, always on time, and a pleasure to have at our home. I know that our Ivy Experience tutor worked very hard with my son, who seemed to make huge strides, particularly in math. There isn’t a thing that I could suggest that would increase our satisfaction.”

– Wendy

Tutoring Testimonials

“Preparing for college standard admission tests and applications should not be a one size fits all program. Ivy Experience provided a flexible approach in preparing my daughter for all the myriad of tasks and points to be considered and addressed. Ivy Experience tailored their services to what my daughter needed and how she responded best.”

– Kathy T.

Tutoring Testimonials

“The Ivy Experience was a tremendous asset to my daughter during her application to college. Their advice on how to prepare a winning essay, and how to deal with decisions to be made about early registration and a host of other topics were invaluable during this process. My daughter attended a large public school where counseling for the best way to approach the top schools was virtually non-existent. I am pleased to report success in that my daughter is now part of the Class of 2017 of a prestigious Ivy League university. Our family owes this in large part to the excellent advice we received from the Ivy Experience.”

– Sandra J.

Tutoring Testimonials

“I could not have done it without my Ivy tutor!” This has been my daughter’s response to anyone who congratulated her on being accepted to her first choice university. The tutors at Ivy Experience were not only knowledgeable in all areas of test prep and essay writing, they were very compassionate when it came to understanding the stress and emotions my daughter was experiencing with the entire college process.”

– Karen M.

Tutoring Testimonials

“I want to thank you for the phenomenal job Ivy Experience did preparing our son for his standardized tests. Our tutor was exceptionally gifted! Our son being accepted to an Ivy League institution would not have been possible without achieving high standardized test scores…I do not think his college would have even looked at him without these scores. Our Ivy Experience tutor was not only a superb educator, but a real friend to our son who always gave him pep talks before the tests and made sure he was feeling confident. He went way beyond the call of duty, even e-mailing or texting our son the night before the tests to wish him good luck.”
